LUC Scholarships

Scholarships available to LUC students

Scholarships are available for undergraduate and graduate students who attend the Longview University Center.  There are two scholarship applications.  The Longview University Center scholarship application allows students to apply for several scholarships at one time.  The second scholarship application is for the Neal and Peggy Garland Scholarship.  This scholarship has a separate criteria and application process.  Visit Financial Aid or Scholarships for more information on other scholarship opportunities.  

Longview University Center Scholarships

Generous donors have established scholarships to financially assist LUC students.  Such scholarships include:

  • Frances B. Ross Honorary Scholarship (Must be a resident of Panola County, TX for at least 5 years.)
  • Laurie Shae Ellard Bates Scholarship (Nursing students entering their senior year.)
  • Laura B. Jackson Scholarship (Nursing students only).
  • Helene Hakim Honorary Scholarship (Nursing students only).
  • Shahin Parsi Memorial Scholarship (Nursing students only).
  • The following scholarships are open to all majors.
    • Jack Matthewson Mann Scholarship
    • Jere J. Ruff and John Nay Thomas Scholarship
    • Longview University Center Circle of Friends Scholarship
    • Robbins Family Scholarship
    • Texas Bank and Trust Scholarship
    • Robert Allan Brown Scholarship
 

Longview University Center Scholarship Requirements:

  • Current Longview University Center student.
  • Enrolled in at least 12 credit hours (undergraduate) or 6 credit hours (graduate) per semester.
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
  • FAFSA on file with the Financial Aid Office.
  • Must complete an online application.
  • Essay required.
  • If awarded, the student must submit a thank you letter to the donor expressing appreciation for the scholarship.
  • If a scholarship event is held, recipients are expected to attend.

Neal and Peggy Garland Scholarship 

The Neal and Peggy Garland Scholarship fund is intended to assist full time students who are residents of Longview, Texas, and enrolled at The University of Texas at Tyler Longview University Center. “Garland Scholars” are awarded funds based on the number of traditional face-to-face & hybrid courses taken during the semester for which they are seeking a scholarship. 

To be considered, student applicants must be in their second or higher semester at the Longview University Center.  

A separate application must be submitted for each semester the student is seeking aid. Scholarship recipients applying for additional awards must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

It is important for applicants to understand that scholarships will not be awarded until after the start of each semester, and as such will not be received in time for the student to satisfy due dates for tuition, fees, or textbook purchases.

Neal and Peggy Garland Scholarship Requirements:

  • Longview University Center student.
  • Must reside within the following Longview zip codes 75601 through 75605.
  • Enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester.
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Must complete a paper application that can be picked up from the Longview University Center Administration Office. 
    • Essay must be attached.
    • Transcript(s) must be attached. (first-time applicants only)
  • If awarded, the student must submit a thank you letter to the donor expressing appreciation for the scholarship.
  • If a scholarship event is held, recipients are expected to attend.
